Job Duties of an ESL Teacher at PI
- Offer a customized English as a Second Language (ESL) lesson plan that fits each student’s skills, needs, and way of learning, and make sure it follows the Dual Language model set by the District.
- Follow the district-mandated curriculum and teaching methods, and only use things that are allowed by the ESL program.
- Make sure that good mental health and educational psychology practices are always used in a learning setting that is focused on the students.
- Use different bilingual and/or English as a second language (ESL) materials and creative ways to teach within the structure of the program.
- Personal contact with each student and reading psycho-educational reports, hearing and vision reports, hiring notes, end-of-year student status reports, and other sources can help you learn about their traits, needs, abilities, and problems.
- Tell the director when a student’s attendance is not good enough.
- Take both formative and final ESL tests and use the results to improve your lessons.
- Give the principal and assistant director an up-to-date copy of the teacher’s plan for what will happen in the classroom.
- Keep your lesson plans up to date so that they cover all of the language topics that need to be taught.
- Use the designated ways to let parents know about your child’s growth.
- Build a strong bond with the parents or guardians of each student.
- Do any other professional tasks that the director and assistant principal may give you.
